The Onderwijsroute

The Onderwijsroute is an educational programme for newcomers who want to continue their studies in Dutch higher education.

The Onderwijsroute is for newcomers (status holders) who want to continue their studies in Dutch vocational education or university education after integration.

Municipalities now have an important role in the civic integration process. The municipality decides, on the basis of previous education and work experience, at which level a civic integration route will be completed. For this reason, registration for the programme can only be done through the municipality. We do not serve as a specific preparatory course for a bachelor or master pogramme. We mainly offer education for civic integration, for which, in all cases, students need to participate in courses Dutch, English, Maths and Study Skills (basic courses). Although it may be possible that a student doesn’t ‘need’ f.e. all the Dutch courses to start a bachelor or master programme, Dutch at a high level is a compulsory part of the curriculum when completing the civic integration route at the level intended by the municipality. Only if a student has successfully completed the basic courses for civic integration, then an additional package of courses is offered (Physics, Chemistry Biology, History and so on) depending on the admission requirements for higher education.

The Onderwijsroute is part of the Language & Training Centre (LTC): a centre of expertise and partner for language testing, language training and (oral and written) communication skills training The LTC is part of Education & Student Affairs of Erasmus University Rotterdam.
